MEET JOEL A.T. ROOS

Joel A.T. Roos is a fantasy author behind Visions of Drytvaarte and Mythic Dream of Drytvaarte. Roos, who grew up in Finland, created the world of Drytvaarte after being inspired by Finnish and Karelian myths and nostalgic tales of nature. He’s found a special connection to the fantasy genre since early childhood. Also, his passion for fantasy ambient composing and tabletop roleplaying games is an important part in the creation process of Drytvaarte.

Outside his creative realms, Joel is a dedicated professional who currently resides in the UK where he is a whisky specialist in central London.

What kind of world is Drytvaarte?

Finding Drytvaarte is like lifting moss in a deep part of a forest and seeing ancient carvings on a stone. It is a world that is close to being forgotten, yet discovered by the curious wanderer. It leaves you wondering, whether you have been hit with a spell of nostalgia, or have you been here before?

You shall go forth with the sword of olden battles, tome of mythic lore and the map of adventures in eternity. On this lifelong quest along roads filled with star-crowned mountains and forgotten forests – you will kiss and slay characters of love and hate.

By the end of this journey you ask ‘how can one find peace with the inevitable passing of time and life?’

Reading My Work Is Like...

Watching snowfall in solitude. Flying in your sleep over spruce forests.
Staring at a ceiling at night. Feeling alone regardless of how social you are.
Looking at sunlight through an old cottage window.
Gazing at the ever-shining stars.
Having those silent moments for yourself.
Wishing to disappear to one’s dreams.
Being hidden from the world.

Joel A.T. Roos debut work Visions of Drytvaarte is a compilation of tales that build an intricate web about the world’s past. A world builder’s dream book, this fictional history book indulges lore connoisseurs with a stupendous amount of names and places. Mythic Dream of Drytvaarte

Available On:

In the dawn of time, an existential spirit embarks on a dreamy quest to behold the battle over the legendary artifact; Samponen and witness a mythical chapter that defines which realms get to exist and disappear in the next age. In these early steps of the world, sleeping realms fight for their destinies to come out of the dream age and transcend into the waking days. The world is at its primordial state, and it is uncertain whether this era of existence is even real, or more like a hazy segment that witnesses several factions competing to justify their existence into the next chapter. At the heart of this conflict is Samponen, a device that keeps the world and its magic spinning in an eternal dreamy loop. The ones chasing the device don’t even understand its purpose, leaving the fate of the world in a mystical state, which defines the entire tone of the book, where nothing really makes sense – just like in a dream.
